Ganoderma lucidum, also named Lingzhi or Reishi, has been widely used all over the world for centuries. The fruiting body (above-ground part) and mycelium (filaments connecting a group of mushrooms) are used as raw materials for high-quality extract production.
Ganoderma lucidum produces a group of triterpenes, called ganoderic acids, which have a molecular structure similar to steroid hormones. It also contains other compounds often found in fungal materials, including polysaccharides (such as beta-glucan), coumarin, mannitol, and alkaloid.
